Happy full moon, everyone and thank you for choosing to spend some time with me today. Before we begin today’s episode, I would like to respectfully acknowledge the Wadandi people, the traditional custodians of the land I’m speaking from today.
So this is episode number two of the earthy writer, my rewilding you and this episode under the full moon out there serves to go deep into my learnings of this month’s challenge which was:
How to manifest with the moon phases.
So what does it actually mean manifesting within the phases? when I came across the term or the idea on social media, it stood out to me instantly and I knew I wanted to learn more about it. Something about the moon has always fascinated me and as a woman, I strongly believe that there is a deep connection between the moon and us women. So when I started on this journey, I had questions:
- What does it mean to align your life to the different Moon energies?
- And what is that moon energy?
- Is it the moonlight?
- Or the position of the moon in relation to the earth?

Moon Manifestations: Two different approaches.
So as I started looking into this, I found two different ways of approaching this idea of Manifesting with the Moon Phases. And the first one I think is really accessible to all of us and that is simply taking the different moon phases and treating them like your calendar. So it helps you to stay on track and stay accountable with whatever goal or intention you have. I wouldn’t even say it’s necessarily a spiritual practice, although it can be, but it is simply helping you to stay accountable with something you’ve always wanted to do something you hope to achieve or something you want to draw into your life.
And that is what I did. I’ve done this for two months now. So I’m still very fresh. And I think it’s important for you to know that we’re on this journey together and I’m learning as I go and I’m approaching this with a curious mind and I’m sharing what I’m learning along the way.
But there’s a second way of approaching this concept and that one might be a little bit harder to believe for some because that one is tapping into a deeper belief in astrology and into an interconnected universe. So what that means is that whatever we do here on Earth is connected to whatever is happening out there, up there with the moon and the stars and the sun.
So you see, it’s not so much about that bright shiny object in the sky and where it is at any given point in time. It is also about tapping into the knowledge that astrologists have collected, the observations that they have made, and the conclusion that the different phases of the moon are mirroring the human experience. Just like the moon, we also go through the same cycle over and over again and that might sound frustrating, but really, it’s quite beautiful because you can learn so much from each moon cycle and you can carry your learnings into the next one, leaving things behind that no longer serve you
The different moon phases – step by step:
So let’s actually get down to the nitty gritty and talk about the different moon phases and when it is best to do what because as a beginner I find that is the hardest part about is to remember which phase which moon phase is for which activity.
We’re going to go through all of them and we’re going to start with the new moon.
Before we do that though, I want to point out that I highly recommend you get one of these free Moon apps. I’ll link it in the description below. So I highly recommend to get this moon app and turn on notifications as a reminder to journal in the moon app as well. It helps because it’s simple. And I know you notice if you hear you have probably been journaled all your life or your youth, at least you’re into that kind of stuff, because it really helps to learn from your own experience. And that is something that I find incredibly important when it comes to rewilding spirituality manifestation. Especially if you’re a bit of a sceptic. Do it yourself learn from your own experiences, take notes, see if it makes a difference. You have nothing to lose and chances are you’ll find out something about yourself and learn from your own past.

Manifesting with the New Moon
As we all know the moon goes through several different phases throughout its cycle. And each of these phases has different astrological significance. We’re going to start with the new moon, and the new moon symbolises a new beginning. It’s a clean slate after the last moon cycle has completed and it’s the perfect time to plant seeds to sit down and get real quiet about what it is you would like to attract in your life.
What do you want to let go of?
So what I like to do during the new moon, and what I suggest you try out as well, is to do your own little moon ritual. I’ll sit down on the floor I get a lot of pillows out and a blanket and they’d like some candles, I turn on some meditation music, and I just sit for a while I meditate I get real quiet. And then I’ll start journaling and I start writing down the things that I would like to draw into my life. And I’ll do that in the form of affirmations. They all start with “I am”: I am abundant. I am healthy… I am… you get the idea. I say them out loud as well which I have found helps quite a lot it really makes them feel like I’m in a conversation with them and obviously universe so it can be a little bit daunting, a little bit weird at first to just say things out loud, but it feels much more like you’re having someone to talk to.
(Scroll down for a detailed new moon ritual guide)
So that’s the new moon. I think it’s the easiest one of them all because it’s so simple to see how that one symbolises something new, you start fresh you plant some seeds.
Manifesting with the the waxing crescent moon.
Next up we have the waxing crescent, and that is when the moon begins to grow it comes out of its slumber and it’s starting to build again. And that is the perfect time when you also start to build on your dreams. You start to take action you take those first mini steps in the direction you want to go to and I don’t think those needs to be big steps. I think what I’ve done the first during the first month in January is I went full out I went I went all out and I just wanted to do it all at once. And it was also the start of the new year obviously so I was pumped and I really wanted to get going but I think it’s actually better to take it easy in those first couple of days after the new moon. So all I suggest you do is you stick to your affirmations. You see them daily human keep them and you remember them because we have busy lives like I find myself forgetting what it is that I want to do this month and what I would like to draw in our manifest or what intention I actually wrote out during the new moon, so for those first couple of days when the moon is moving again during that waxing crescent moon, just remember your affirmations and start to think about what steps could I take and this is the important part: There should be a little bit of action. It shouldn’t just all be in your head you should take a new step towards something.
For example, if you would like to include more movement in your day like you want to be more active and exercise more. The idea would be after the new moon into the waxing crescent. You start going for a walk you start to do a little bit of yoga not too much, maybe 10 minutes, maybe 15 minutes, because what’s important in this first phase is that you stay motivated, right?
Manifesting with the waxing quarter moon
next up we have the waxing quarter moon, and that is a time when the moon and the sun — so I have learned — in a 90 degree angle, and that is a good time to look at the challenges you’re currently facing. Because there will be challenges if you start something new.
I love the example of exercising and that is you’ve exercise: for the first couple of days and it’s been going well you’ve been gathering momentum after the new moon and then you get your first muscle pains and it starts to get a little bit tougher to get out of bed in the morning and make the effort. Those are the first challenges this is when it’s really important to keep that momentum up but also to be gentle with ourselves, to sit with the issues and acknowledge that they’re there and then find workarounds, even if there is a setback, or even if there is a first challenge a bit of resistance: That’s a good sign. That’s what you need to remember is that when there is resistance is usually because you’re trying for something. If you weren’t trying there will be no resistance and you wouldn’t feel anything.
So take these first challenges as a good sign as something something’s happening in your life and you’re moving forward and that is why you’re facing these first challenges and it’s an awesome thing and you should really pat yourself on the back because you’re doing it you know you started.

Manifesting with the waxing gibbous moon
After that first quarter moon is complete, we’re approaching the waxing gibbous moon so that is right before the full moon and it’s a super high energy moment. A lot of things are happening and feels like a very busy, active time because the seeds you planted during the new moon and the waxing crescent, they’re slowly falling into place.
And I want to give you an example of what happened during my first waxing gibbous moon because it really stood out for me:
So during January, my intention was to find new book readers. I’m an author, so I’m constantly looking for new readers and I wanted to sort of automate that a bit more. I didn’t want it to feel like such a struggle with something I constantly have to keep up with. And I did some research and I applied for a BookBub deal. BookBub is a promotional newsletter on the English speaking markets. You discount your book and then BookBub will send out a newsletter to hundreds of 1000s of subscribers who potentially will buy your book now may tell you that it’s very, very hard to get a BookBub deal and you will probably not get one the first time you try. So you should just keep on trying throughout the year maybe if you’re lucky, the third or the fourth or 10th time you might get one… I got one the first time I tried, and I got the confirmation email during the waxing gibbous moon. It was this high energy moment and it happened because I took action during the waxing crescent and it just really it was such a confirmation for me that this is a great thing to do.

And I’m not saying this is pure magic of the universe provided it just honestly helped me so much to have a framework I could work with, and sit down during the new moon and then write down my intention and then think during the waxing crescent. Okay, what action would first step can I take and then knowing Okay, there will be obstacles coming my way there will be challenges but I’m going to keep going because what’s next is the waxing gibbous moon and during the waxing gibbous, shit’s going to start to happen and it’s going to feel amazing.
So that’s just a little example of why I think this is a fantastic thing to do because it keeps you accountable and it keeps you excited. And it doesn’t discourage you because you know the waxing gibbous is coming and things are gonna get get really good.
Manifesting with the Full Moon
Next up we have the big one we have the full moon. It’s a nourishing time. It’s the most nourishing time of the month. The Moon is at its fullest. The sun is shining directly on the moon and the moon is reflecting that beautiful white light back to us down on Earth. But — and this is something many people don’t even know about — it’s also a beautiful time because on that day when it’s the full moon, the sun sets at the exact same time as the moon rises. So, what I like to do and I really started to plan my life around this is I tried to get to an open field or an open area where I can see this magic happening where I can see it unfold and where I have both the sunlight and the moonlight shine upon me. I think it’s a very, very powerful, beautiful thing to do to stand in the middle of these two celestial bodies.
I like to do a full moon ritual as well when I have the time. And that one looks a little bit different to the new moon ritual. Just because things are so damn busy during full moon like up here. There’s so much going on in here as well and I really struggle to find some quiet time during the full moon. It’s full moon now and I’m just buzzing with with the with ideas and thoughts. So I tried to get real quiet. Usually I don’t even listen to meditation music during that time. I just put on some theta waves, some vibrations that really slow me down. And I like to do some arms when I’m meditating. So, I just try to still see steal the mind and clearly air and then I sit down and I’ll journal again. And the journaling will be very messy. It’s usually just to let the creative energies flow and get all the ideas out on paper. It happens a lot during that time that I’ll have ideas for new books are like it’s a mess. It’s a mess, but it’s a beautiful mess. And once all of that stuff is out on paper. That’s when I try to reflect on the things that have worked so far during the cycle and the things that haven’t worked and there’s always something that hasn’t worked and it’s also a very good time to look at blockages, subconscious blockages, things that I need to release so I like to write those on an extra piece of paper. Not a majority of extra piece of paper I write down but and then when I’m done with my ritual I like to find that piece of paper or if you can’t make fire in your house, you can also flush it down the toilet.

And if the weather is good, if it’s not raining and it’s not overcast, make the effort and go outside stand under that full moon dance under that full moon. I even I like to take binoculars and look at the craters and the landscapes in the moon. You can even, if it’s overcast, you can even just look at a photo of the full moon, zoom in on it and really marvel at this beautiful thing that’s up in the sky. Because I think that’s another thing we tend to forget in our busy lives is that where we actually are not just in this world within this universe and connecting with with the moon is just such a powerful way to remember. So I really enjoy doing that and it feels like this tiny little secret between me and the moon. I’m showing up for myself by doing this. That’s what I mean by making the effort to go outside. I’m not doing that for anyone other than myself. It’s between me and the moon. It’s a little tiny little ritual that I can do to show up for myself and I just think it’s so powerful.
Manifesting with the waning gibbous moon
Now after the full moon I find things can get a little bit more tricky. The full moon was this awesome phase and some things have worked. But then during the next phase, which is the waning gibbous moon. It’s a bit of a heavier time at least for me because that’s when I realised oh shit I only have two weeks left in the cycle and still stuff hasn’t happened yet. So now I really need to step up my game. And that can get a little bit frustrating because things take time. It’s very important to remember that even though you set an intention for the new moon it probably won’t have all happened within the next four weeks. Things take time like you plant a seed but it will take a while until you see a flower come out of that soil. So to me, that’s the time when I need to be patient when I need to be focused but when I need to be patient and this is a really good time to look at blocks to look at what you need to release in order to get to the next stage. And on that note I would very much like to share a quote with you that I found on Instagram the other day and I find this fits this moon phase so well:
What you need to realise is that you don't actually create abundance. Abundance is always present. You just create limitations.
Let me return again: What do you need to realise is that you don’t actually create abundance. Abundance is always present. You just create limitations. And so, the waning gibbous moon and that’s what it’s there for. It’s for us to look at the limitations that we set in our own lives, to look at them and see if they’re even serving us anymore and then to find ways to let go of them and that is I find the hardest part because I know my blockages I know my blocks and I know what I need to let go of but to find ways to do it. That’s a whole different story. And to give you another example, they’re related to my book business. It’s I told you earlier that in January, I tried to manifest new book readers, but the constant limitation of the constant struggle I have is that yes, I want new book readers. But at the same time I’m terrified to find new book readers. Because when you let’s say one of your Instagram posts goes viral or I did that BookBub deal, where my book was now sent out to 1000s upon 1000s of people. I am terrified of that stuff. I’m so terrified of backlash, of negative reviews because reviews in my line of business are so incredibly important. And while I never go in and read the actual reviews, I do sort of once or twice a month have a look at the overall star rating and make books for a living and books are meant for readers. That’s what I always say. So I want to find new readers. But at the same time I’m terrified of it and that is a blockage. I have no idea how to let go of and that’s something I’m working on. So waning gibbous moon, that is the time when things might start to feel a little bit achy and it might get a little bit harder.
Manifesting with the waning quarter moon
And then in the next phase and I think that is the most powerful phase of them all. That’s the waning quarter moon and that is when we actually do it. We let go of the stuff that is no longer working. It’s a time when the moon is waning when the light of the moon is getting less and less and less. So it’s it’s much more of a quiet time. It’s a very reflective time. But I also have found in what I’ve read agrees with that, that during that time, that’s when I get most of my inner guidance when I listen to my intuition and when my intuition is the loudest. So during that time, I’ll say things like:
“I never thought of it that way.” Or, you know, “this is the way to do it.”
So there’s a lot of insights coming up things falling into place because you’ve done the work over the last couple of weeks. And now you realise what it is that you actually need to do. Amazingly, I would also say that is a time when things also happen on the outside when I get a little piece of guidance. Maybe it’s something someone else said something I saw on Instagram something I read in a book where suddenly I receive the exact guidance that I need at the time to release something and to let it go.
Manifesting with the waning crescent moon
and this brings us to the last phase of the moon cycle which is the waning crescent moon that is exactly before the new moon and before it all starts over again. So, this is a really good time to look at your last New Moon. intentions or goals. See what has worked, what hasn’t What do you need to or want to take with you into the next moon cycle, write it down and then prepare to start all over again within this new room and give yourself a big pat on the back for sticking through it.
I have done it for two months now. subconsciously I have done it for much longer, I think there’s also a connection to be made between a women’s menstrual cycle and full moon and that’s a whole other layer by the way that you can add to this to see when the moon does what and how that correlates with your cycle. And I bet you what you’ll find is that it mirrors everything we just talked about. And I find that this practice, just support so much what my body needs as well and what my body’s calling for in trying to tell me. So again, it’s just another layer you’re adding to this connection that you’re trying to foster between you and everything that is out there and everything that’s within yourself.
Beware of yet another “Sky God”
Towards the end of the episode I wanted to give a word of caution or at least it’s something that I think about a lot and that is said I’m a bit wary of focusing too much on what I call another sky god. So it’s I think it was Sharon Blackie who wrote in her book. Was it “Women rose rooted”? — I think it was. I look it up for you. But anyway, she said that what the church did and what the patriarchy did was they by introducing God is being something that’s high up in the heavens in the sky. They took away the reverence for everything that’s down here on Earth. So by turning to the skies and turning towards the heavens, we forgot what’s going on around us here on the ground. So before Christianity took over, a lot of people were animists and believed that every single Earth has a soul. That everything on Earth is alive and they worshipped the rivers, the rocks, the trees the plants, everything around them was poli so to speak, and that God lost through turning our heads towards the heavens. So I think it’s very important and as we move on. Throughout this year now introduce more and more challenges you will find that my focus is very much on the on the things that are happening right here around us is definitely a very important part of the whole thing. We also need to remember that it’s not just, you know, planet Earth, we are in a massive universe and there’s a lot going on up there.
But yeah, that’s just something I personally want to be cautious of. I don’t want to now turn to another sky god and just look up there the whole time and forget what’s around.
And this brings us to the end of the first full moon episode of the earthy writer. Head on over to my blog once this is done, I’ll make sure to add my new moon and my full moon ritual on there. I’ll also add a couple of links to like meditation music that I like to listen to, as well as books that I can recommend on the topic. Other than that, head on over to Instagram let me know what you thought of this week’s episode. I would really like to hear from you.
And then I’ll see you back here for the next noon episode. We will talk about my own rewilding journey, chapter two, as well as the next month.
Crafting Your New Moon Ritual: Harnessing Lunar Power
The arrival of the new moon heralds a pristine beginning, an opportunity to reflect inwardly on our ambitions and the elements we wish to release. It signifies a time for rest and introspection, rendering it perfect for a ritual within the comforts of your own home. Here are the steps I like to take, but please feel free to put your own spin on it:
Prepare Your Space: Before you begin your ritual, make sure your surroundings are tidy and inviting. De-cluttering and organising your space can profoundly affect the ritual’s ambiance. I favour enhancing the atmosphere by lighting a candle, playing serene music, and possibly burning some incense. Keep a pen and paper or notebook to hand for writing down your thoughts.
Foster a Divine Connection: Aim to get calm and meditate, taking deep breaths and stilling your mind.
Reflect and Write: With your pen and paper ready, list your desires or the aspects of your life you’re preparing to release. These might include specific emotions, fears, or barriers that are no longer serving you well, and also positive additions you wish to manifest. I find it helps to focus on one, maximum two per moon cycle, especially when you’re just starting out. Don’t overdo it!
Voice Your Intentions: Write those goals down as affirmations (“I am”), if you can, and read them out loud (not just during the ritual, but over the coming days). Voicing them can have a significant impact on their manifestation, often eliciting deeper emotional resonance which is crucial for bringing your desires to fruition.
Visualise: After releasing what’s unnecessary, it’s time to visualise, focusing on your breath, and visualise your wishes coming to life. Set an intention to stay open to these new experiences and any growth opportunities they present.

Embracing the Full Moon Ritual: A Celebration of Completion and letting go.
The full moon brings a time of reflection and celebration, acknowledging both what has been achieved and the aspirations yet to materialise. Steps for Your Full Moon Ritual:
Find Your Centre: Amid the heightened energy, find calm within your space. A few deep, cleansing breaths can help align and prepare you to harness this energy effectively.
Reflective Writing: Reflect on the past few weeks. Note your creative thoughts and ideas – let it all out -then focus on your successes, challenges, and areas for expansion or growth during this moon cycle.
Let Go and Affirm: Identify what hasn’t materialised and the obstacles impeding these experiences and write them on an extra piece of paper. You might opt to symbolically dispose of these barriers by flushing them away or burning them in a fire-safe receptacle.
Bask in Moonlight: If feasible, step outside to let the moonlight caress your skin. Use binoculars and marvle at the moon, dance in its white light, or – if overcast – even looknig at a photo of the full moon works.

Sandra
Today is full moon and when I heard your last episode of the moon phases I wrote down all the informations in my own words in my journaling book. Of course expecially how to manifest with the different phases.
So, on the new moon I wrote down that I spend time with our puppy, we adopted from a dog rescue in Portugal. Of course in present.
And at that time it was almost utopian that my boyfriend and I are allowed to adopte her. There were a lot of other people which wanted to adopte her. And the shelter was so so complicated with us.
Last night we got the commitment for the adoption! After I listend to your podcast and wrote everything down I wanted to manifest, I knew that everything would be good on the full moon. I trusted in the energy of the moon.
Thank you so much for your wonderful work – it gave me hope and trust!
PS.: But of course I have to mention, that it was hard work, that the puppy could came to us. So the universe tested us and many tears were flowing. But it was worth every tear :)!
Gisele
I love everything about this, Sandra. Thank you som uch for sharing this wonderful story. It truly made my day. All the best for you and the puppy!
